Those Big, White Canalfront South Beach Townhouses Behind the Bass Museum Have Hit the Market for $6M

When the two tall, white townhouses were built behind the Bass Museum in 2006 and designed by Miami architect Chad Oppenheim, they were a bit of an enigma. They’re on the market now for $6 million for the pair.

The neighborhood was a bit odd and piecemeal for such luxury residential properties, with empty lots, somewhat desolate other buildings, and lots of concrete nearby. Even though some seriously luxurious hotels were blocks away, and the museum and Miami City Ballet were already across the street, the Collins Park area, behind the museum, was one of the last patches of South Beach to really blossom again. Although the location is very central, it would not have been a particularly nice street to live on. However, it obviously oozed potential.

Now, everything is different. A few years ago, the Vintro Hotel opened right next door. Down the block, the Plymouth was converted from New World Symphony student housing to a hotel, its original historic use. The Collins Park Hotel, an amalgamation of several historic buildings with additions designed by Kobi Karp, is under construction. More small hotels line the south side of Collins Park. Just around the corner, Artecity is another complex of historic buildings that have become a very nice apartment complex. The Gates Hotel is a couple blocks up the canal, where it conjoins with Indian Creek and Lake Pancoast. Restaurants proliferate as well, in many of the hotels and on their own. And Collins Park itself is usually stuffed with art installations from the Bass Museum and various interesting events.

Enough about the neighborhood. Here’s what the brokerbabble, via Sotheby’s International Realty, says about the townhouses themselves:

SOUTH BEACH 10,263 Sqaure Feet Modern Masterpiece. Two pristine, waterfront 4-level townhomes with private elevators, dramatic 20plus Feet floor to ceiling impact windows, and 4-car garage. Top-of-the-line appliances, first-class finishes and marble floors throughout. 3rd level balcony and rooftop deck with plunge pools. Enjoy beautiful sunrises over the ocean and breathtaking sunsets against the Miami skyline. Luxurious residence steps to the ocean, restaurants, shops and entertainment. Zoning allows short-term rentals/Airbnb.
