Officially called “Kimpton Hotel Palomar South Beach,” the new hotel on the corner of Alton Road and the Collins Canal, overlooking Dade Boulevard in Miami Beach, has announced they are opening “late 2019” as construction workers hustle to finish the job. The hotel is hedging its bets, however, and only taking reservations for April 2020 and later.
That’s a smart move because there could always be delays, complications, and hicups, and nobody wants theire reservation canceled because the hotel isn’t built yet. Knowing Miami, shit happens.
Designed by Kobi Karp, the hotel lines the Collins canal and, when completed, will bring a little life to that stretch of waterfront. The Altamarea Group will run the food and beverage stuff, and bring their restaurant Osteria Morina, currently in Soho in New York, with them. The hotel is built around a central atrium, and will have a roof deck bar. The lobby, according to the press release, is “meant to resemble the hull of a private luxury yacht lilted on its side.” If done well, that sounds like quite something.
