Rumor has it the Zonker is gone.

Rumors are swirling that the Football Sandwich Shop, which has served subs on NE 2nd Avenue for years and was home to ‘The Zonker,’ its signature sub, has closed down for good. The place has been closed for renovations for a month but local journalist Nathanial Sandler says he heard last night that the landlord was “shopping it for rent.” Apparently, the shop had already started closing on Saturdays before that. With the undoubtedly increasing rents in the Little River area, many will be shocked and saddened to see it go, but perhaps not really surprised. The Football was where you could get a great sub, not a trendy one.
