West Palm Beach is getting a new design-y hotel called the Ben West Palm, slated for opening on February 13th 2020, the day before Valentine’s day. The 208 room hotel appears to be inspired by early Floridian history, with an interior design that evokes adventure and tropical escapism. While the public spaces are richly decorated, the guest room interiors will be light and airy, with cream-colored fabrics, leather headboards, and copper fixtures.

The Ben is named after one of West Palm Beach’s earliest houses, the Ben Trovato Estate, which was was owned by a celebrated author of the time, Byrd Dewey, grandniece of President Zachary Taylor. At the house, Dewey entertained Henry Phipps Jr., Woodrow Wilson, and the Vanderbilt. When high society was flourishing on the island of Palm Beach, this was one of the first big houses to be built on the mainland.

The hotel will have a ground-floor restaurant called Proper Grit and a Downtown West Palm Beach’s only water-facing rooftop lounge, called Spruzzo, next to the rooftop pool. According to a publicist ‘Playful interpretations of classic dishes take from the ‘proper,’ while local flair and the Florida pioneering spirit drive the ‘grit,'” at Proper Grit. Meanwhile Spruzzo, will have Mediterranean tapas. Miami has seen a boom in rooftop restaurants and lounges over the last five years or so, and it seems like that trend is finally coming to WPB.
