NEIGHBORHOOD: Fort Lauderdale

Check out the press release. It's a little dry, but this isn't exactly the most interesting hotel in the world, so what do you expect?

Fort Lauderdale's Parker Playhouse, known for its midcentury baroque aesthetic, is getting a $25 million renovation that will jazz it up with lots of new upgrades and amenities. This includes a big new lobby, private donor and premium lounges, and a signature bar. Oh, and upgrades mechanical systems, state-of-the-art equipment, and acoustic upgrades.

Downtown Miami is full of shiny new condo towers, but Downtown Fort Lauderdale is the land of the rental tower. There's Icon Las Olas. There's the New River Yacht Club. Then of course just to the north of Broward Boulevard, Flagler Village is incredibly rental-driven. Yet another one has hit the floor, this time south of the New River, with an expected groundbreaking of Q4 2018. So, late next year. Check it out:

This baronial pile, called Bella Fortuna, is close to Downtown Fort Lauderdale and on the market for $39 million, and—rather extraordinarily and sadly rare for a new build these days—the Mediterranean Revival architecture of this place is gorgeous.
