Miami-based architecture firm Nichols Brosch Wurst Wolfe has shared the latest aerial shots of their almost-complete expansion of the Turnberry Isles Resort in Aventura, a project that will include a 16-story tower containing 325 new hotel guest rooms, 96,073 sf banquet hall space and 32,471 sf office space.

The tower, which will open as part of a rebranding of Turnberry Isles as the JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa, will be called the ‘Orchid Tower’ and will almost double the guest room count of the resort to 685 guest rooms and suites. The interior designer is Champalimaud, a very French-sounding firm which has its headquarters in the United States, and based on their website, does quite lavish interiors. Although exterior photographs of the construction, and renderings have an aesthetic in keeping with the rest of the Turnberry resort, in the same sort of contemporary Med Revival style, the interior of the Orchid Tower will have an Art Deco motif.

This is how a press release describes the Champalimaud interiors:

The standout interior design by Champalimaud took inspiration from Miami’s art-deco history presenting clean, geometric lines coupled with classic designs and simple, sophisticated details. The materials and color palettes used throughout the new building come together to celebrate elegance and a strong sense of place, boasting a modern residential design that is true to the JW Marriott aesthetic. A subtle ivory color palette is present throughout the project and evokes a relaxing spa experience that mirrors the airiness of natural beauty that exists within the South Florida surroundings. Hints of blue and brown accents, which are also ubiquitous throughout the resort, reference the natural surroundings of the environment.

The Orchid Tower’s room types include 1 king size bed, 2 double beds, 1-bedroom suites, presidential suites, and a two-bedroom penthouse – all of which create a luxurious atmosphere intended to encourage comfortable lounging and views varying between the resort, golf course or ocean. At the heart of each guest room in the Orchid Tower, lacquer painted wood fluted paneling are featured behind the bed to pay homage to the tower’s strong art-deco influence and are accentuated by modern bed lamps designed to complement the panel’s sleek lines. Each guest room features a beautiful credenza inspired by a vintage dresser designed by the famous mid-century Italian designer Gio Ponti, who was known for his sea-side resorts in southern Italy. The credenza boasts a unique rift cut white oak with a solid Caesarstone top surface and metallic accents of oil rubbed bronze at the hardware and legs. Each guest room also features in-room artwork from established artists curated by DAC Art Consulting.

The inviting bathrooms feature a contemporary design, flaunting Alabama white marble walls and floors. Guest will enjoy stunning vanity counter tops in Bianco Dolomiti classic marble with double sinks, a sleek shower with glass door and a custom vanity mirror with subtle curved corners in an oil rubbed bronze frame, built in full length and perfect light for grooming.

UPDATE: Turnberry has just announced its new ‘Tidal Cove’ waterpark:

Tidal Cove will feature a 60-foot tower with seven water slides, a 4,000-square-foot kids pool with an aquatic play structure, and the first-ever FlowRider® Triple surf simulation pool in the nation. The state-of-the-art outdoor recreation area will add five-acres of pool deck to the resort.
