Like a whiny child that hates to share, the Disney Company has abruptly announced they are pulling out of their plan to build a Brightline train station on Disney property. “As many people who are involved in this project are aware, the new route configuration does not support a Disney Springs station and as a result, we don’t anticipate being part of this project," Disney spokesperson Avery Maehrer recently told the Orlando Business Journal. Mr. Maehrer didn't elaborate further, but like any good spokesperson he still managed to say very little and a whole lot at the very same time.
Tri-Rail is coming to Downtown Miami sometime next year. When you consider that South Florida’s commuter rail network is finally accessing South Florida’s urban core, this is big news no matter how you slice it. First, Tri-Rail will head into Downtown Miami by taking an east-west rail line at 73rd Street and then heading south on the Florida East Coast Railway (FECR) tracks, thereby connecting it with the MiamiCentral rail terminal. But this is only the beginning
The Big Bubble recently took a ride on the Brightline, the new-fangled high speed train running between Miami and Palm Beach. Going from Miami to West Palm took about an hour and fifteen minutes, and was a comfortable ride through the urban cores of three counties.
The huge new Brightline MiamiCentral train station terminal—a pun on Grand Central, which in the minds of Miamians it clearly evokes—is opening this weekend. Technically a terminal, because all trains end here, it is massive, with enough overhead platforms for both the Brightline intercity rail line and Tri-Rail, which will make its downtown Miami debut here. Check out our gallery of photos inside completed terminal below, interspersed with renderings, and a video.
The Brightline is the closest Miami could get to a bullet train anytime soon, and it's coming to Miami this weekend. The high speed train, which builds up speed as it heads north out of Miami-Dade County and South Florida, will eventually reach Orlando International Airport.
