When you take a spectacular piece of early modernist architecture, such as this streamlined moderne house on Pine Tree Drive by important Miami Beach architect Igor Polevitzkty, and give it some bland contemporary renovations that are supposed to “improve” it while blending in with the existing architecture, the results often leave something to be desired.

Because every style based on boxes is supposed to coordinate, apparently, whoever renovated 6301 Pine Tree Drive seems to have left the majority of the exterior intact and run amuck with whatever bit of historically appropriate interior was left when they bought it, adding a new kitchen, new floors, new baths… basically new everything. Walking up to it is like being transported to 1938, when it was built… an earlier, more elegant time in Miami Beach history… and then boom, you go inside, and you’re in some condo in South Beach in the early aughts.

The lot is spectacular though, with a half-acre of land, and 140 feet of water frontage on Indian Creek. It has a whopping 10 bedrooms, per the listing, and at $1,172 per square foot, and a $9.2 million price tag, it’s about 7,849 square feet, which is a very, very impressively sized house for Depression-era 1938.
