FENDI's 2017 Furniture Ad Campaign is Set in Miami. Does it Do The Trick?

FENDI Casa, the furniture and interiors branch of the iconic Fendi Italian fashion house, is presenting their 2017 campaign in a sun-filled modernist living room with a Miami backdrop of palm trees, pools, and skyscrapers. The press release gushes about how fabulous everything is. But does the furniture live up to its setting, or is it just a little too minimal?

Do You Like the Model Unit at the $1 Billion Residences by Armani Casa?

Last night I had the honor of moderating a panel on social media and marketing for real estate brokers at the model unit and sales center for the Residences by Armani Casa in Sunny Isles Beach. It was a fun talk and I'll share the video over social media later, but meanwhile posted some of interior shots at the ultra luxury project on social media the other day, and many of my friends had mixed reactions to the design.

Susanne Bartsch's Bareback Follies Does a Spectacular Monthly Engagement at El Tucàn

Nightlife legend Susanne Bartsch has a monthly super gay cabaret extravaganza at Brickell's El Tucàn called Susanne Bartsch Presents the Bareback Follies, and having already come in December and January, it's back for its February incarnation on the 28th. Last month's show was an absolute ball (I got on the stage twice!), but each month is a little different.

Modernist Office Building in Coconut Grove by Seminal Miami Architect Kenneth Treister Faces Demolition

A group of architects and preservationists interested in preserving modernist architecture is fighting to save the Office in the Grove, an office building designed by seminal Miami architect Kenneth Treister in 1970, from demolition. Treister artfully tempered the building's precast concrete brutalist facade with creative architectural details of local flora and fauna, highlighting the surrounding Coconut Grove neighborhood.

The traveling exhibit 'Letters to Andy Warhol' will be in the Design District's Palm Court all this week. The exhibit is a collaboration between the Andy Warhol Museum and, for some reason, Cadillac.

The Design District's New Multilevel Christian Louboutin Boutique is Entirely Covered in Bark

Oh my. It will be fascinating to see how all this bark stands up to the South Floridian elements (and hurricanes!) when the store opens.

Icon Brickell's Sky Forest Chopped Down for Emergency Pool Deck Overhaul

The continuing saga of Icon Brickell's huge leaky pools and structurally questionable amenity deck, both of which are now having an emergency gut job to make just as huge repairs, is getting kind of morbid. Up until just recently, dozens and dozens of flourishing shade trees originally flanked the two pools and a very oversized hot tub, creating a park-sized forest about fifteen stories in the sky.

The Betsy Hotel is Debuting its New Wing, Floating Pool & Ball Bridge Tonight

On the completion of a two-year renovation (sorry, these pictures are about a month old. Sue me.) the Betsy South Beach is unveiling its new wing tonight at a New Years Eve party.

Related's SLS Lux Tops Off in Brickell. Bam

SLS Lux, one of the many collaborations between the Related Group and SBE, has just topped off. All fifty seven stories of it. Bam. It follows its two sister towers to the west (and twins) Brickell Heights 1 and 2. Bam bam.

Mnuchin Gallery Claims to be "Not Affiliated in Any Way" With Trump Treasury Secretary Pick, and Senior Gallery Partner's Son, Steven Mnuchin

So far maybe not so good for those looking for a little grace-and-favor nepotism for the international art world in the Donald J. Trump administration. The unpronounceably-named Mnuchin Gallery, which is exhibiting at this year's Art Basel Miami Beach, is publicly disavowing any connection to Steven Mnuchin, the Donald's pick for Treasury Secretary and son of the gallery's head honcho.

Photos from the Big Faena Forum Grand Opening Parade and Street Party in Miami Beach

This giant pineapple is why you couldn't get anywhere on the beach today. The Faena Forum Grand Opening parade included giant food being speared onto a giant shish kabob, street performers galore, and a fleet of purple Mercedes. Oh and a piñata that looks like a wedding cake wearing a bunch of Madonna bras by artist Carlos Betancourt. Check back later for commentary.

In Miami, Grand Opening Blow Outs Are Getting Bigger and Bigger

Over the past week or so I've had the fun of attending two particularly big grand openings for two big development projects in Brickell: Brickell City Centre and SLS Brickell. They were thrown by two of Miami's biggest developers, Related and Swire, eager to show off their fanciest. flashiest. latest, and largest new projects.

Louver House Tops Off, and Other South-of-Fifth Construction Updates

Louver House, a low-rise urban infill (okay, more of a mid-rise in the context of South Beach) condo South-of-Fifth recently topped off and its developers are holding a little topping off party very soon. It was designed by the fabulous local architect Rene Gonzalez. The party's on the roof of the building, which is still very much under construction. No I'm not saying when. It's a private party, so keep your hoi-paloi ass at home.

Paraiso Bay Tops Off & Breaks Ground on its 'Beach Club'

As the market cools and we're seeing a flurry of condo tower cancelations or 'on hold's, we're also seeing a flurry of buildings topping off or being completed. Paraiso Bay, the first of four towers in the Paraiso District to begin construction, has reached its full height and has just topped off, according to the Related Group.
