The dearly departed grand dame of contemporary architecture, Zaha Hadid, was a big fan of Miami. The internationally renowned architect of the currently-under-construction One Thousand Museum in Downtown Miami loved Miami so much she had a vacation home here, where she spent a lot of time before her untimely death at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach (yes, she even died here).
Her Miami Beach home, a double unit at the W South Beach, was put on the market by her estate after her death in 2016. Originally listed for $10 million in 2017, the unit has finally sold for $5.75 million by Angelica Garcia & Ivan Chorney of ONE Sotheby’s International Realty’s Sports and Entertainment Division. David Pulley of Douglas Elliman’s Sports & Entertainment Division represented the buyer.
Located at 2201 Collins Avenue, Units 726/728/730 (730 is a studio she connected later on) are a total of 2,541 square feet, and were meticulously designed by Zaha herself. The expansive SE facing corner unit includes a wrapping balcony, and killer ocean views. Let’s hope whoever bought it takes as much care of it as Zaha did herself.
