El Solano, the Palm Beach estate once owned by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, has hit the market for a whopping $47.5 million. Lennon bought the house in January 1980, and spent the winter living there. He was killed in December of that year. After proceeding with the home renovation she and Lennon planned together, Ono eventually sold it in 1986.

The house was built in 1925 by iconic Palm Beach architect Addison Mizner, who reportedly lived in it himself before selling it to Harold K. Vanderbilt, for whom he added the stately living room.

Since then, the house has changed hands a few times, although it remains an excellent example of Addison Mizner’s mastery of Mediterranean Revival design. It’s also downright lavish. The 10,500 square foot, home comes with seven bedrooms, two swimming pools place on opposite sides of the house (so the sun is always aiming straight at one of them), and a whopping 180 feet of ocean frontage. It’s one of those Palm Beach properties that’s mostly across the street from the Atlantic, but includes a bit of directly-oceanfront land across the street. It even has a little beach house included. There’s also a tennis court and tennis pavilion.

And the price… Ahhh, well, the $47.5 million price is more than double what that house achieved just four years ago, when it sold for $23 million, and that wasn’t in the middle of a pandemic. On the other hand, a non-oceanfront place not too far from this one, which was listed at $45 million (although we don’t know the final sale price yet), is now under contract. Oh, and this pandemic has made the world’s billionaires much, much richer… So that could make a lot of sense. Check out the photos below:
