The Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce is holding its annual real estate luncheon on September 12th, and tickets are still available. The topic of the panel discussion, "Diversifying Our Real Estate to Diversify Our Economy," recognizes the fact that as Miami Beach real estate becomes more expensive, its population has become more affluent, exclusive, and monotonous, and more people are being pushed out.

One part fine art raffle, one part kickin’ party, Locust Projects celebrates the 20th Anniversary edition of their annualSmash & Grab fundraiser. South Florida art collectors will convene at Locust Projects’ Design District gallery spaceto take part in the action on October 13 where participants buzz with anticipation as their names are called, inspiring an electrifying run for artwork from some of the top artists working today. This event, one of LocustProjects’ largest fundraisers, will fuel the organization’s innovative exhibitions and programs for this monumental, 20th Anniversary season.

Park(ing) Day, the annual event when urban activists around the world turn parking spaces into public parklets, is almost upon us. This year, Park(ing) Day is on September 21. In previous years, Park(ing) Day has been pretty successful in South Florida, but last year, Park(ing) Day happened to land immediately in the wake of Hurricane Irma. So, it will be interesting to see how many urban parklets are created this year.

The annual King Mango Strut parade, which was held yesterday in Coconut Grove, was Miami at its sarcastic best. Check out pictures here.

El Tucán, that magnificent cabaret in Brickell, with its elaborate live floor shows, has had a renovation to allow it to become a nightclub with dancing later in the evening. Of course, the cabaret shows will continue, and now they have a dance floor for those shows to spill out on too. This is what is called a 'floor show.' And floor shows are incredible. Let's hope for a few numbers with ladies in very big headdresses.

American Express has sponsored artist Es Devlin to create an immersive, site-specific installation in the Forum of the Miami Beach Edition hotel that they're calling a "vaulted elliptical mirror maze." Room 2022 will be open to the public from December 7th to 10th. Judging by renderings and press photos of his work, the installation looks incredible.
